The night diving at Palau is a not to miss opportunity ( Does it appear that I say that about everything with the words Palau and diving? ). This was my first big trip with my new Ikelite flash. I had not taken pictures at night before. I would just try and spot cool things for others with cameras. Taking pictures at night opened a new world for me.

At night, the Palau walls took on a different personality. The large masses of marine life were gone. However the beautiful bright coral grew bigger and brighter. The reef creatures would come out to feed ( and other things ).

The truly unusual small creatures would use this time to do their daily chores.

One of the most incredible dives of my life was a night dive on Matt's Wall. From the moment we dropped in until we surfaced 75 minutes later ( You gotta love Nitrox. 5 dives a day with the last dive well over an hour), it was one outstanding moment after the other. I took 114 pictures on that one dive ( You also gotta love the digital cameras. I would have shot an entire roll of film in the first 15 minutes and been crying the rest of the dive ).

This is also the night that Sex was in the Air. More of the Matt's Wall pictures can be found on that page. The colors at night are incredible.
You can find slipper lobsters all around the world, but this is the first I've seen with olives for eyes.
I suprised the captain with this pictures of a tiger flounder. They are evidentaly pretty rare in Palau. I didn't know that. I actually saw two on the Matt's Wall dive ( It really was an amazing dive ) .
The thorny oyster makes a great subject . They don't move too fast.

A glass of wine with dinner is not worth missing any of the night dives in Palau. The shrimp says don't drink and dive.
